Tension at Kanchi over RSS camp

10/11/08, DC

Chennai Nov. 9: At least seven people were injured after a clash between RSS cadres and members of Left parties, VCK and Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam at a school ground at Orikkai village in Kanchipuram where a RSS camp was being held on Saturday. According to the police the problem started when party workers protested against the camp, which included physical training, being held at the Bharathidasan matriculation school ground. There were special classes going on while the RSS personnel in khaki shorts were participating in the camp. The protestors pelted the nearly 200 RSS workers with stones. In retaliation the other group attacked them with wooden poles. Tension prevailed in the area. A police team rushed to the spot and asked the school authorities to vacate RSS members from the premises saying they were causing a law and order problem in the area.

All the seven injured in the clash were admitted to hospital. “Four cadres of RSS were treated as outpatients while the three from the opposite side were admitted as inpatients,” said the police. Later the political parties announced that they would be holding a protest demonstration in the coming days against the RSS. “We are looking into the complaints lodged by both the sides and probing the incident. The RSS could have avoided a camp in the school when the classes were on. The political parties could have also approached the school authorities rather than confronting the RSS members directly,” said a senior police official. According to him, the police will be making a few arrests soon. Initial enquiries by the cops with the school management revealed that the right wing RSS activists had obtained permission saying that they were conducting a yoga class in the school.

  1. The stone pelting by Left, VCK, TNMMK activists on RSS camp in Kanchi is condemnable. The act of attacking the peaceful camp clearly shows the malicious intentions of these groups to attract cheap publicity. It is shocking to read that police asked the school to vacate RSS members as they were causing law and order problem when it is reported that they were the ones to be attaked by stones first.

  2. According to my knowledge , RSS does not beleive in violence. It will never take violence as a means to serve its goals. Even a weak person will retaliate , if he is attacked. What RSS did is perfectly correct. It has taught them a good lesson. These parties have no vision, they just want to improve their SECULAR image.
